bibleworld: schools education department of the Scottish Bible Society

Religious & Moral Education

As children and young people learn about and from religion, they develop a healthy understanding of equality and diversity in society and begin to understand how they can take part in it.  Joining in the search for meaning, value and purpose in life enables them to explore, question, discover and establish their own values and beliefs.

The Curriculum for Excellence lays its emphasis on Christianity because of its contribution to the historic traditions that have shaped the communities in which we live.  Whilst showing consideration for the faith and views of other world religions Bibleworld’s objective is to teach the development and influences of the Bible and Christianity in Scotland, and how its message can still be applied practically in everyday life.

We have developed a creative and exciting environment that lends itself to coherent and meaningful learning.  We have sensitively looked at Biblical principles and standards that translate across religious persuasions and ethical stances alike.  We have woven into our workshops a variety of learning approaches that encourage children and young people to work collaboratively whist engaged in active learning.

Each zone within Bibleworld Mobile uses a variety of teaching methods to ensure that key messages and outcomes can be achieved by the children and young people.  Wherever possible, we include opportunity for learners to question and discuss their own experience in the hope that through mutual understanding, learning and respect will be achieved.

Our programmes find links throughout the curriculum and are firmly based within the Literacy, Health & Wellbeing, Religious & Moral Education and Social Studies parts of the curriculum.
